HALF MARATHON & 5K COURSES
Both courses begin and end in Vets
Park, behind the Ice Arena (636 E 66th St), cover very flat terrain, and
pass through shaded residential neighborhoods, past neighborhood park, and
through three natural areas: Wood Lake, Richfield Lake, and Vets Park.
The half marathon course is certified by the USATF (MN08032.RR). Your
time can be used for some wave qualifications for the Twin Cities Marathon

half-marathon course measures as very flat, great for a personal
best or qualifying time for another race (the course is
USATF-certified). View elevation graph below (the steepest, and
only notable, rise in the course is a 0.5-mile stretch coming out of
Wood Lake, which is a 1.6% grade....less than most railroad beds).
of the course is paved, including the stretches around Richfield Lake
and through Veterans Park. The only non-paved section is the
1.8-mile stretch around Wood Lake Nature Center, which is a
regularly-maintained crushed limestone surface.
Times will be recorded for 3.5 hours for the half marathon and the 5K; the courses close at 10:30 am, at which time, traffic is no longer controlled and intersections must re-open.
Services will be provided for all participants maintaining this pace
(approximately a 16-minute mile pace for the half marathon). As the
race passes through the course at this pace, streets along the course will
be re-opened to traffic. For safety reasons, Half Marathon runners
will not be allowed to start the course 10 minutes after the gun.
The UWHM5K begins and ends at Veterans Memorial Park. Vets Park has plenty of grassy
areas for runners to relax and interact and for families to play during the before, during
and after the race. Bagels and fruit will be available at the finish line. All
participants will receive a free pass to the Richfield Outdoor Pool, located
the finish line.
Medical aid will be available at each of these
water stops, as well as the finish line (both staffed care and self-care).
Portable bathrooms will be available at all water
stops (miles 3, 5 ,7 ,9, 10, 11, & 12) and at the start and
finish lines. Indoor bathrooms are available for use at the Richfield
miles 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, and the finish line; all stops
have water, medical assistance, Gatorade and restrooms (some stops have
portable toilets, others have facilities in a nearby park
building). Food is available at the finish line.
